Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
